We acknowledge that our learning is taking place on unceded and unsurrendered Algonquin Territory. We thank the Algonquin Nation for hosting us and recognize their enduring presence on this land.

Our School

Cedarview Middle School, located in the city of Ottawa’s west end community of Barrhaven, is a bright spacious building, opened in September 1994. It is designed to facilitate team teaching/planning, the use of technology to enhance curriculum, is wheelchair accessible and reflects an interest in and care for the environment.

Our School Motto‐Living, learning, laughing: Today’s Youth – Tomorrow’s Success.

Our Students

Cedarview Middle School has an enrollment of over 800 students.

Our students come from the following schools: Barrhaven P.S., Jockvale E.S.,  Mary Honeywell E.S and Half Moon Bay E.S.

Most of our grade 8 students go onto attend John McCrae S.S.,Longfields‐Davidson Heights S.S, or South Carleton H.S. Students talented in The Arts have the opportunity to apply to Canterbury High School.

Students with special needs are integrated into classrooms and support teachers and educational assistants work in the classrooms to offer assistance. We have two congregated gifted classes and an autism system class.

Our Staff

Cedarview has a dynamic, energetic staff that is committed to providing quality educational experiences to all students. We present our students with a range of opportunities to extend their interests, talents, skills and leadership qualities. We work together in professional learning teams to identify and respond to student learning needs. Staff dedicates many volunteer hours to offer students extra‐curricular activities and clubs that involve sports or music or student leadership opportunities. This year we have over 40 staff members, including teachers, educational assistants, office staff, library technician, custodial staff, a Vice‐Principal and a Principal.

Our Community

Cedarview Middle School has an active School Council consisting of elected parent representatives, the principal, the vice‐principal, a teacher representative, an executive consisting of a Chair, Vice‐Chair, secretary, treasurer, fundraising coordinator and several members at large. The council works together to maintain a positive educational environment for the students. CMSC invites input from all families and endeavors to keep them informed. Volunteers help out in many ways including the library, computer labs, classrooms, field trips, fundraising and school committees. CMSC fundraising will be used this year to support a number of school and classroom initiatives and programs that support our School Improvement Plan goals.
