Cedarview Core Values

Cedarview Middle School, located in the city of Ottawa’s west end community of Barrhaven, is a bright spacious building, opened in September 1994. It is designed to facilitate team teaching/planning, the use of technology to enhance curriculum, is wheelchair accessible and reflects an interest in and care for the environment.

Cedarview is a school that fosters a great sense of community. We have established Core Values that align with our mission which is to foster safe and positive learning environments where students feel a sense of belonging, and are motivated to step outside their comfort zones to grow as individuals. Our core values include: Respect, Integrity, Community, Responsiblity and Discipline, and our motto is, "Together, We Rise!"

Our Students

Cedarview Middle School has an enrollment of over 650 students. Both French Immersion and Regular English programs are offered, and there are two congregated classes serving gifted students, and students diagnosed with ASD requiring specialized classroom placements.

Our students come from the following schools: Barrhaven P.S., Jockvale E.S.,  Mary Honeywell E.S, Half Moon Bay E.S., and Wazoson P.S.

While most of our grade 8 students go onto attend John McCrae S.S., some have the option to attend Longfields‐Davidson Heights S.S, or South Carleton H.S. As well, students have the opportunity to apply to Arts programs offered Canterbury High School, and students looking for Internation Baccalaureate programs can apply to Merivale H.S.

Cedarivew Middle School is an inclusive school where students with Special Education needs are offered in-class support.

Our Staff

Cedarview has a dynamic, energetic staff that is committed to providing quality educational experiences to all students. We offer our students  a range of opportunities to extend their interests, talents, skills and leadership qualities, through differentiated instruction. We work collaboratively to identify and respond to student learning needs so that all students can access their learning. Staff dedicate many volunteer hours to offer students extra‐curricular activities and clubs that involve sports,  music, arts, games, and/or student leadership opportunities.

Our Community

Cedarview Middle School has an active School Council consisting of elected parent representatives, the principal, the vice‐principal, a teacher representative, an executive consisting of a Chair, Vice‐Chair, secretary, treasurer, fundraising coordinator and several members at large. The council works together to maintain a positive educational environment for the students. CMSC invites input from all families and endeavors to keep them informed. Volunteers help out in many ways including the library, computer labs, classrooms, field trips, fundraising and school committees. CMSC fundraising will be used this year to support a number of school and classroom initiatives and programs that support our School Improvement Plan goals.
